{"id":22,"date":"2014-04-24T18:31:22","date_gmt":"2014-04-24T18:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kkatfineart.wordpress.com\/?p=22"},"modified":"2014-04-24T18:31:22","modified_gmt":"2014-04-24T18:31:22","slug":"showing-a-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kkatfineart.com\/?p=22","title":{"rendered":"Showing a Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently attended the opening of my tenth gallery show.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve spoken before about how much hard work goes into art, but that work isn&#8217;t over just because you have all the pieces done.\u00a0 The display of your work is almost as important as the time and labor that went into making it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"separator\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-wsqUQXpOFdw\/Uv-lI3sH4mI\/AAAAAAAABSk\/4Bjzbnxvc5o\/s1600\/k4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-wsqUQXpOFdw%2FUv-lI3sH4mI%2FAAAAAAAABSk%2F4Bjzbnxvc5o%2Fs1600%2Fk4.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a few things you have to think about while you are making work for a show that can save you a lot of headache.\u00a0 The first one is how much work you need to produce in order to fill the space you are allotted.\u00a0 The second is the size of your pieces in relation to the specific needs of the space.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not saying that there is only one correct way to hang any specific body of work, but to show it off to the best advantage, it is a good idea to take the space into consideration.\u00a0 For instance, are there two five-foot walls on either side of a door?\u00a0 Perhaps you should make pieces of the same size to go on either side to make a pleasing visual harmony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"separator\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-I3hMG6ZmUmM\/Uv-lIAM7ADI\/AAAAAAAABSU\/-3jiwSi5ais\/s1600\/k2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-I3hMG6ZmUmM%2FUv-lIAM7ADI%2FAAAAAAAABSU%2F-3jiwSi5ais%2Fs1600%2Fk2.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my case, I also had to consider cord management since most of my pieces are powered by electricity.\u00a0 Above is an image of one main wall of the gallery my work is currently hanging in.\u00a0 You can see that the cords are wrapped neatly around the hanging system.\u00a0 This was a workaround we came up with after seeing what the cords looked like when allowed to just do what they wanted.\u00a0 Below is an image of a piece without the cord wrapped.\u00a0 Visually, it is much more distracting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"separator\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-h0F4-plOzH8\/Uv-lIXDJ75I\/AAAAAAAABSc\/GAGJCSeu2VY\/s1600\/k3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-h0F4-plOzH8%2FUv-lIXDJ75I%2FAAAAAAAABSc%2FGAGJCSeu2VY%2Fs1600%2Fk3.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another really important thing to consider is lighting.\u00a0 Most of my pieces are iluminated, and I didn&#8217;t want the gallery lighting to fight with that.\u00a0 Because of this, the show was scheduled early in the year &#8211; to minimize the amount of light from the large windows in the gallery that would wash out the effect of my work.\u00a0 We also pointed the track lighting in the gallery at the floor in front of the work.\u00a0 This provided enough light to see the craftsmanship of each piece without inhibiting the effect of the lights on the overall visual integrity of each piece.\u00a0 However, I did do four small art-jewelry pieces that required lighting.\u00a0 We worked hard to attain a soft light that wouldn&#8217;t contrast harshly with the rest of the lighting in the room.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"separator\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-EfxcfGEde24\/Uv-lH-cjYmI\/AAAAAAAABSY\/ac7FPD6G2eg\/s1600\/K1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F-EfxcfGEde24%2FUv-lH-cjYmI%2FAAAAAAAABSY%2Fac7FPD6G2eg%2Fs1600%2FK1.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a lot more than that which goes into the install of a show, but I hope this gives you a taste of what kind of considerations need to be made when hanging a body of work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently attended the opening of my tenth gallery show.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve spoken before about how much hard work goes into art, but that work isn&#8217;t over just because you have all the pieces done.\u00a0 The display of your work is &hellip;
